Justin Bieber On Crazed Fans: 'If You're Screaming It's Hard For Me To Connect With You'

Justin Bieber has had his issues with screaming fans lately, chastising attendees at a recent concert for screaming while he tried to speak to the crowd, even storming offstage at a show in Manchester, England, when he grew frustrated after his pleas to quiet down were ignored.

However, a clip from a new documentary allows Bieber to offer an explanation for his behaviour, and he says it's all about trying to connect.

The film — "Bodyguards: Secret Lives from the Watchtower" — focuses on security guards whose jobs involve protecting famous folks, and includes interviews with Bieber and his security director Mikey Arana, who discusses how Bieber's security needs have evolved so that these days he usually stays "out of sight, out of mind, giving him more space as he grows, letting him interact with people."

As Bieber's fans grow up, adds Arana, "they're more likely to engage him in a conversation than to grab him and literally rip him apart. I remember when I first started with him, it may sound crazy, but three or four little girls, emotional, they have so much strength they would literally rip off his shirt, take off his hoodie… if if's a big crowd, you can lose him in the crowd."

Bieber himself is also interviewed, admitting "the hardest thing is just space. So having security it creates space, it creates boundaries, it creates a safe space for me,"

He added: "As the fans get older and know themselves more they understand how to act. They actually want to act a little bit more sane so that maybe they get my attention. Because at this point, if you're screaming and super overwhelming, it's hard for me to connect with you."
