Orly Mash Up Collection for Summer 2013

It's been a couple months since I had any Orly on my nails. It's easy to overlook them in my swatching boxes now that the handles are just plain black (for the regular line; the blue/purple ones on the FX ones do stand out). In my boxes (and in my Helmer drawers, for that matter), I see the cap first. Used to be the Orly O was right there, now the name is spelled out black on black, which just blends in with all the other brands (when I get my stash back to sorting by brand, it won't matter so much in the Helmers, but right now, when it's by color, it's a jumble).

I did finally manage to corral all the colors in the Summer 2013 Mash Up collection and get them out of my swatching box: Harmonious Mess, Pretty-Ugly, Choreographed Chaos, Mayhem Mentality, Sparkling Garbage, and Beautiful Disaster.

Harmonius Mess is a blue-leaning lilac creme. This was a surprising two coats; as light as it is, I expected three for sure.

Pretty-Ugly is oddly named; there's nothing ugly about this light turquoise shimmer. At three coats, I had the barest hint of visible nail line.

The blue of the shimmer is quite pretty in lower levels of direct light:

Choreographed Chaos is a bright pink shimmer. The shimmer shows blue/purple in the bottle but not so much on the nail. Swatch is three coats.

Direct low light brings out the shimmer a bit more, but not the to the level of the bottle shot:

Mayhem Mentality is a really bright orange creme. I used three coats; it dried with a bit of a satin finish, though as bright as it was, I was surprised it wasn't even more matte a la many neons. With a white base coat and some topcoat, I imagine this would be even more eyecatching than the swatch makes it look.

Sparkling Garbage is a slightly greyed green jelly packed with small silver holographic glitter. I used three coats, and it wasn't quite opaque. If I wear this for a full mani, I'll either do skintone undies or layer it over a colored base.

Look at all the pretty colors sparkling of Sparkling Garbage in low light:

Beautiful Disaster is a warm purple shimmer. It's ever so slightly brushstrokey, perhaps the darker base color makes that more obvious than it would be otherwise. I used two coats for this swatch.

Here's Beautiful Disaster in low light:

I like all these colors individually—well, maybe not the orange quite as much, since it looked like I had mini traffic cones at the end of my fingers and that's even more distracting than blingy glitter. I'm less sure how they hang together as a collection, but I guess with a name like Mash Up, they don't need to coordinate, they're just all shoved together.
