Justin Bieber had a simple reply for a young fan who asked if she could have a hug in a shopping mall.
"No."
The singer's response stunned the fan and her friends into silence.
Days earlier Bieber stopped during a concert to diss a fan who had offered him a cap as a gift.
"Take this moment to listen instead of giving me a hat or whatever you're trying to throw onstage right now, because I probably don't want that sh**," he lectured the crowd in New Jersey."
"Sorry, that was mean," he said.
Earlier, Bieber went unrecognised in New York's Central Park as he played Pokemon Go with some buddies.
Fans went into overdrive on Twitter as they spotted their idol clutching his phone and searching for the digital creatures.
